Acupuncture

"Acupuncture & Modern Science"

Acupuncture is a part of the holistic system of healing known as Traditional Chinese Medicine that originated in China over 3,000 years ago, making it one of the oldest continuously-practiced systems of medicine in the world. The practice of acupuncture has withstood the test of time for one simple reason – it works. Acupuncture is currently used by a quarter of the world’s population, mostly in Asia, and its popularity is growing rapidly in the West as scientific trials prove its efficacy and the benefits of acupuncture become widely recognized and integrated with mainstream healthcare.

Acupuncture originates from China and has been practiced for thousands of years.  It has been effective in the treatment of back pain, headache, migraine, sports injuries, anxiety, insomnia, digestive problems, menstrual problems, weight control and much more.

Illnesses interfere with the natural flow of energy throughout the body, acupuncture re-balances the energy by targeting specific acupoints related to the health condition involving various methods such as the application of heat, pressure or penetration of thin needles.

The World Health Organization lists over 40 conditions, ranging from anxiety to osteoarthritis, which acupuncture has proven to be effective. Research from the National Institutes of Health has noted that acupuncture is effective in treating post-operative pain, chemotherapy induced nausea, and more.

Research has shown that acupuncture works to facilitate the flow of lymph- and oxygen-rich blood to remove tension in muscles and nerves – it can also trigger hormonal release and relax the nervous system. Acupuncture can also work to regulate several different symptoms in the body, such as the nervous, endocrine, circulatory, reproductive, and digestive systems. Because of this wide spectrum of benefits, this ancient form of medicine is a natural, drug-free alternative for not only the treatment of specific conditions, but also to balance the whole body.

  • Relaxation – Relaxation massage is a smooth, gentle, flowing style that promotes general relaxation, relieves muscular tension, and improves circulation and range of movement. Your therapist will aim to relax, revive, and rejuvenate you at a massage depth that does not cause discomfort.

  • Deep Tissue – Deep Tissue is a type of massage therapy that focuses on realigning deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue. It is especially helpful for chronic aches and pains as well as contracted areas such as stiff neck, upper back, low back pain, leg muscle tightness, and sore shoulders.

Massage therapy involves manipulation of the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of normalizing those tissues and consists of manual techniques that include applying fixed or movable pressure to enhance function of those tissues and promote relaxation.
